Great leaders and great gardeners
Great gardeners and great leaders both obtain a deep pleasure from supporting growth. Great gardeners grow trees and other plants. Great leaders grow great managers and staff.
Gardeners know that trees need food to grow - food from sunlight, water, carbon dioxide and nutrients from the soil. Trees do not grow beyond their ability to support themselves. During periods of stress they shed leaves, flowers, fruit and/or branches.
Leaders know that their people need food to grow – food from vision, sense of purpose, knowledge & skills development, recognition & praise. People do not grow beyond the boundaries that are externally applied or self imposed. During periods of stress they become anxious or depressed, exude negativity, and are significantly less productive.
